Our talented and popular choir are known for their diverse repertoires that span from the timeless elegance of classical music to the rich rhythms of traditional African music. They bring prestige, harmony and pizzazz to any event and never fail to captivate audiences. The choir perform throughout the year at numerous eisteddfods, competitions and festivals, as well as special events, where they exhibit a passion for singing and a high standard of excellence.

Contemporary Dance

Our contemporary dancers love to take their audiences on captivating journeys with their expressive dances that blend elements from various forms, including classical ballet, jazz, modern, and urban dance. The school offers both a beginner and an advanced class in our beautiful dance studio, Hoopoe, and the dancers perform at numerous showcases, eisteddfods and competitions, often achieving at the highest level.

Debating

The school has a strong debating culture with a bustling and committed society where learners develop their knowledge of current affairs, practise vital speaking skills, and learn to use their voices to challenge and improve their communities. The junior and senior teams compete throughout the year in various competitions (like SACCEE and Athenium) and we regularly have debaters in the Gauteng and South African squads.

At Parktown Girls, Drama is more than just a subject – it’s a vibrant, creative space where learners are encouraged to explore, express, and grow. The school offers Drama as an academic subject and boasts a dynamic extracurricular programme, with four productions – Major Production, FEDA, the Shakespeare Schools Festival and House Plays – staged each year. We also encourage individual growth in performance through participation in the annual National Eisteddfod.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a dynamic and energetic street dance style that is always a crowd-pleaser! Our award-winning advanced group, Labyrinth, is known for its innovative choreography and show-stopping performances, and they consistently compete at the highest level of competition. There is also a beginners class for those wanting to learn and grow in this vibrant form of expression that is also an excellent work-out!

Marimba

Our marimba players have a reputation for bringing positive energy and good vibes to any event and there are opportunities to join the beginner, intermediate, and advanced groups. The bands take part in events like the International Marimba Festival, the Tshwane Youth Arts Festival and the National Eisteddfod, just to name a few, and are always in demand for private functions, where they showcase their hard work and passion for this unique instrument. Ama-planka forever!

The music room is a bustling, creative space where magic happens! The school has an advanced and beginner band with opportunities to learn woodwind, brass, percussion or string instruments from scratch, and to perform at the National Eisteddfod and other prestigious events. Parktown Girls’ approach to a holistic, wide-ranging education is evident in our dedication to providing world-class musical opportunities to our learners!

The photography club is an imaginative space where students capture the spirit of the school through their lenses, and learn to develop their skills and own unique artistic voices. The club holds regular in-house competitions, hosts guest speakers, and explores diverse creative techniques. Members are also encouraged to enter the Photographic Society of South Africa’s monthly competitions and international salons in countries like Germany and America to name a few.

Public Speaking

This is where courageous young women, ready and willing to meet every challenge on the way to achieving their dreams, are forged! Public Speaking provides students with opportunities to develop confidence, leadership, and communication skills through workshops, coaching, and team-building activities. Members participate in a variety of local and national competitions and festivals, and there is a strong focus on senior students mentoring and supporting juniors

Traditional Dance

Known for their strength, fitness and lively performances, our traditional dancers never fail to impress with their creative and colourful routines. This dedicated group performs at various events and competitions with much success, and they are a vital part of our school community. They also play an important role in honouring and promoting a love for African heritage and tradition.

Other cultural activities include Pottery, Poetry, Public Speaking and Technical Theatre.
